Witch Resources

I thought it would be useful to make a list of some resources for people interested in learning more about being a witch. I have used all of these and found them to be at least moderately helpful to me.

General:
  • Internet Book of Shadows on sacred-texts.org.
    • I use this fairly often when I want to look up spell ideas for something specific. It's a huge database, so I would recommend using the search function for the sacred-text site to find things!
  • Scott Cunningham's Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practictioner
    • I loved this book. He has very practical and clear advice for anyone who is just starting out. I like that he doesn't think that you need to follow a specific "recipe" for your practice. This book also includes his personal book of shadows at the end. There are also several other books by him which look useful that are about more specific topics.
Runes:
  • Edred Thorsson's Futhark: A Handbook of Rune Magic
    • This book has been so useful to me in rune work. I bought it knowing nothing at all about runes and with the help of Mr. Thorsson I have been able to become somewhat knowledgeable already in the mysteries of the runes, and how they can be used in magic.
Social Networking/Joining a Coven:
  • Joining any one of a number of social networking sites like wiccantogether.com, or paganspace.net can be useful in finding people to ask questions, making friends online with similar values, and to generally learn more about many topics. I particularly like thier crafts section for getting ideas for a new project.
  • Wicca Covens: How to Start and Organize Your Own by Judy Harrow
    • This book was really great to read, but at the time I wasn't actually planning to start my own coven, rather I just wanted to know more about whether or not I should try to join one. This book gives practical advice for being a part of or starting your own coven with an extra bonus of some rituals and spells that I found very useful.
  • Check for local information on The Witches' Voice
    • This site has listings for pretty much any of the larger groups in an area, and also listings for group gatherings. They have some great general information and lots of posts by people that are inspiring and interesting.
I am going to be continuously updating this whenever I find something new that I found to be helpful!
